The sacred art of storytelling has an ancient matrilineage.
Nisaba, the Sumerian goddess of grain and writing, became Keeper of Sacred Accounts and Scribe of the Gods. The Village is one way we honor her lineage—by committing our stories, wisdom, and ideas to the written word and by writing in community.
Students in ancient Mesopotamia concluded their tablets with a doxology thanking the goddess for inspiration and success. And so do we.
