Community Publishing
Some books are created not by a single author, but by a community.
Village of Care Press has been publishing collaborative books since 2019 through our House of Books, which now includes more than twenty volumes created in community.
We bring that experience to organizations, retreat communities, professional groups, workshop participants, and other communities that want to gather their stories, wisdom, poetry, reflections, or lived experience into a professionally produced book.
Community publishing can take many forms: an anthology around a shared theme, the culmination of a retreat or program, a collection of practitioner wisdom, or a book that preserves the stories and history of a particular community.
We can help shape the concept, invite and guide contributors, develop and edit submissions, and bring the collection through production and publication.
The House of Book Series
A Seven Year Case Study of a Community in Story
Established in 2019, the House of book series is a living example of what community publishing can become. Now 22 books, 560 sacred stories, and 82 authors strong, the collection gathers the voices of writers connected through Retreat House Spirituality Center in Dallas, creating a lasting record of reflection, wisdom, creativity, and shared experience.
Each book grows from a theme that invites writers to explore their own lives and offer what they discover to others. Together, their individual stories become something larger:—a portrait of a community in conversation with itself and the world around it.
The House of book series demonstrates the heart of community publishing—when we gather individual voices with intention and care, we create something no single voice could create alone.
