Every Voice Deserves to Be Heard
Healing the world one book, one story at a time
Village of Care Press is the flagship imprint of the Village of Care publishing family. Founded in 2013, VOC exists to bring meaningful books into the world—books that arrive at the right time for the people who need them most. Our work is rooted in the Hebrew concept of tikkun olam—the repair of the world—and in the understanding that tending the world begins with tending one another. Those who accompany others through change, loss, growth, and becoming deserve care and companionship, too.
Bring Your Book Into the World
Village of Care Press publishes books that support reclamation and resilience, personal growth and spirituality, and holistic well-being. Our authors include coaches and retreat leaders, clergy and chaplains, holistic practitioners, spiritual companions, and others who carry wisdom born of experience and feel called to share it.
We do not understand healing as fixing what is broken. We understand it as tending what is human—with honesty, compassion, and care. Becoming is a lifelong process, and books can be part of that journey: offering language for what we are experiencing, companionship when the way feels uncertain, and possibilities we may not yet be able to see.
Created with care and integrity, these books become quiet companions for people standing at their own thresholds of courage, hope, reclamation, and inner peace.

a deeply personal reflection of my soul
Being With is a collection of poems, things that caught my eye, touched my heart, and spoke to my soul. The reflective, back-and-forth way of connecting verses in the pantoum form of poetry lends itself well to the meandering back-and-forth nature of “being with” life. As an Episcopal priest, most of these poems have a spiritual connection that is contemplative in nature. I love nature, as you will see, and enjoy solitude, particularly our mountain home in northern Colorado, a refuge from popular tourist destinations.

The Poetry of Grief by David Jenkins
David Jenkins invites us to travel with him on a profound journey that begins in the depths of grief and moves not toward solutions or resolutions but toward a deeper connection with love, gratitude, and our shared humanity He invites us to sit with our emotions, to bear witness to one another’s pain, and to honor the complexity of the human heart.
— Amy Lane, Spiritual Director and Pastoral Counselor
Emotions, once tangled, begin to turn. . . .
After the numbness of loss releases its grip, we come face-to-face with the emptiness, despair, and loneliness of grief. We struggle with conflicting emotions—love and anger, gratitude and guilt or regret. Friends return to their daily lives, unaware that we are not fine and unprepared to help us untangle our complex feelings.
Healing Grief’s Tangled Emotions speaks to these intense emotions, validating the depth of our feelings and the realities of the grief journey. Not just for those in mourning, this book is a resource for grief counselors, therapists, clergy, and spiritual companions working with individuals, families, or groups. This book is a powerful reminder of hope’s healing power.
Can I ever love again?
Are you a person of a certain age who doubts you can love again? Perhaps you have been told by society that you are too old to find love. Loving Again disrupts these narratives as David Jenkins, quite unexpectedly, finds new love with Eva, a fellow hospice worker. David answers this poignant question by sharing his own journey from grief to love.
In his earlier books, Healing a Grieving Heart and Healing Grief’s Tangled Emotions, he shares his experiences losing his first wife Mary Anna and working through complex emotions of grief and loss, healing and hope.
In Loving Again, David confronts the issues of letting go of our loved one, giving ourselves permission to love again, and seeking blessings from family and friends to pursue new love. He writes about the challenges of idealizing our loved one, forging a new independent identity, and creating a new life that is inevitably different than the one we once had.
This book is a companion for individuals sitting with the question, “Can I ever love again?” It is also a resource for
grief counselors, therapists, clergy, and spiritual companions. This book is a powerful reminder of the power of hope and a reminder that we are never too old to love again.
This book is not merely a tribute to a lost partner, or the heavy burdens carried from military service; it is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. David Jenkins has woven a tapestry of loss, memory, and love—threads that bind the past to the present, the personal to the universal.
— Amy Lane, Spiritual Director and Pastoral Counselor
Unbearable. Unpredictable. Relentless.
Grief and loss often leave us without words to describe our experiences and complicated emotions. It’s easy to feel lost, afraid, and overwhelmed—especially in the first year of a grief journey. David Jenkins helps us build bridges through poetry, courageously naming the realities we face as we move through the nonlinear path of grief and healing.
Not just for those in mourning, Healing a Grieving Heart is a resource for grief counselors, therapists, clergy, and spiritual companions working with individuals, families, or groups. This book will help you rekindle hope when it feels like hope has died, too. It is a loving reminder that you are not alone.
The House of Book Series
A Community in Story
Established in 2019, the House of book series is a living example of what community publishing can become. Now 22 books strong, the collection gathers the voices of writers connected through Retreat House Spirituality Center in Dallas, creating a lasting record of reflection, wisdom, creativity, and shared experience.
Each book grows from a theme that invites writers to explore their own lives and offer what they discover to others. Together, their individual stories become something larger:—a portrait of a community in conversation with itself and the world around it.
The House of book series demonstrates the heart of community publishing—when we gather individual voices with intention and care, we create something no single voice could create alone.
