A world where every voice is heard

independent publishing for stories, wisdom, and ideas that matter

Village of Care Press is an independent publishing house for authors, practitioners, leaders, and communities bringing thoughtful work into the world. Founded in 2013, we publish books rooted in lived experience, meaningful ideas, and the belief that stories can change how we understand ourselves, one another, and the world we share.

More Than a Publishing Company

We see a book as a form of service—a vessel for ideas, stories, wisdom, and experience that deserve to travel beyond the person who carries them. For some authors, that means publishing a full-length book. For others, it may mean contributing to an anthology or creating a shorter work. A book may be the culmination of years of professional practice, or finally giving shape to a story that has been waiting to be told.

We don’t begin with the question, “How do we sell this?” Instead, we ask:

  •  What do you want to say?

  • Why does it matter?

  • Who needs to receive it?

  • And what is the right form for bringing it into the world?

From there, we help authors move from idea to manuscript to finished book through developmental support, editing, publishing, and thoughtful guidance about what comes next. No one is born knowing how to write a book. We make the process manageable and supportive because we remember what it feels like to stand at the edge of a first book, somewhere between doubt and becoming.

Your Book. Your Voice. Your Work.

We believe authors should be able to create beautiful, professionally produced books without spending tens of thousands of dollars, surrendering control of their work, or waiting years for permission from the traditional publishing industry. Our model is deliberately small, relational, and author-centered. Authors who publish with us:

  • retain control of their intellectual property and content

  • own their royalties

  • remain free to use their work in workshops, retreats, courses, speaking, teaching, and other creative endeavors

  • receive individualized support rather than being moved through a standardized publishing package

Our role is not to take ownership of an author's work. It is to help steward that work into the world with clarity, integrity, and care.

Books as Impact

A book can be an end in itself.

It can also be a beginning.

For authors who want their books to support a larger body of work, we help think beyond publication—speaking, workshops, retreats, teaching, community conversations, media, social platforms, and other ways a book can become an invitation into deeper engagement.

Our approach emphasizes clarity over hustle, discernment over speed, and alignment over visibility.

You do not need to become an influencer to become an author. You need something worth saying—and a thoughtful way to say it.

Community Publishing

because some books belong to a community

Some stories are more powerful together. Since 2019, Village of Care Press has partnered with Retreat House Spirituality Center in Dallas to create its House of‍ ‍book series, now more than twenty volumes strong. These collaborative books demonstrate another possibility for publishing—creating a shared literary home for the stories, poetry, reflection, and wisdom that emerge from a community.

What would be possible for your organization, community, or group if we could support you in developing an anthology, collaborative publishing project, or series that preserves and shares the voices within them?

Our Record

Village of Care Press began in 2013 with a single book and a belief that important ideas should not have to wait for permission to enter the world. Since then, we have published:

  • 350+ authors served

  • 22 community anthologies

  • 580 sacred stories shared

  • 14 solo-authored books

  • 4 new titles arriving in Fall 2026

  • 7 books already in development for 2027

Along the way, we have also supported hundreds of writers through editing, book development, self-publishing, academic and independent press submissions, book proposals, and the decision about whether publishing a book was the right next step at all.

We have grown considerably since 2023, but volume has never been our measure of success. We care about what happens after a book enters the world: the conversations it begins, the people who feels seen because of it, the community it strengthens, the idea it carries forward, and the doors it quietly opens.

Your Book May Be Closer Than You Think

Some authors come to us with completed manuscripts. Others arrive with twenty years of professional experience, a folder full of essays, a workshop they have taught a hundred times, a story they cannot stop thinking about, or simply the persistent sense:

I think there may be a book here.

That's enough to begin.
